Less than 200 persons in the U. S. are credentialed in providing Functional Manual Physical Therapy, and our own Karen Johnson is one of the best of these. I have had friends travel from Ohio and Pennsylvania just to work with her after being unable to find such services locally.

Retaining a Functional Manual Physical Therapist is important to healthy vitality. Few ever reach adulthood without injuries and physical consequences. Many jobs require decades of sitting. Progressively movement restrictions occur, especially throughout the hips and lower back, the neck and shoulders. Chronic pain or injury eventually follow. Functional Manual Physical Therapy can correct much of this. If coupled with core conditioning, corrective work can lead to capacities previously unknown. Recovery of functional movement skills is one of the healthiest purchases anyone will make for vital health and aging.

A friend is a world class organist. Several years ago I discovered she had a chronic shoulder pain limiting performance possibilities. Work with Karen Johnson and a physical trainer have returned her to full capacity. Every so often she insists on treating me to dinner for, “saving my life.” The intense beauty of her performance music mastery once more lifts me from the mundane to soaring lofty heights. I am richly rewarded by her commitment to recovery and health. Such may be the case for your loved ones also. Do it for yourself, do it for them.

I shall close with these and begin some ice removal facilitated by Karen Johnson and Joe Sansalone. Many thanks for all you have allowed me to continue to do.

Over the past ten years or so I’ve been going to Karen for everything from dislocated fingers to sprains to crinks in my neck and back and in that time she’s always taken care of whatever issue I’ve had. Her amazing knowledge of how every bone, muscle, and tendon in the body is connected allows her to quickly focus in on the source of the problem, which in turn enables her not only to relieve the pain but more importantly to correct the issue such that it never returns. I’ve lost track of how many people I’ve referred to her—I’ve not only recommended her to countless people through my various softball leagues but also to just about my entire office. After every referral I hear the same thing, that Karen is a wonderfully warm person with a tremendous gift to heal people. Perhaps the best compliment I heard was from a colleague of mine who said “I wish I had something wrong with me just so I could go back to see Karen!”

After many years of playing sports, stress, and a severe car accident, I found myself in a lot of pain. My shoulder, neck, and back area were a mess. I couldn’t even raise my hands over my head because it was so painful. I had been to a doctor been prescribed muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory medicine which didn’t help. Then I decided to undergo physical therapy which didn’t work. I even tried acupuncture which also didn’t alleviate my pain in my shoulder. I found it difficult to run my business and take care of my children because of the pain.

I was referred to Karen at CIMT by a friend of mine who saw me at a dinner party and could see how much pain I was in. I had tried everything else why not try manual physical therapy. After just one session with Karen, I was able to raise my arms over my head. It was unbelievable. If anyone had told me this story, I wouldn’t have believed them but it was true. I started getting treated by Karen every week for months and my pain started to diminish to the point where I am pain free. Manual therapy was the only treatment that worked for me.

Now I was able to go back to doing my yoga classes which I wasn’t able to do because I couldn’t hold myself up in “plank” position or any other position. It was just too painful.

For anyone who is suffering with pain, I would highly recommend Karen’s practice. She takes time with her patients and is committed to getting you pain free.

My family has been greatly helped by the manual therapy provided by Karen Johnson. From my teenage son’s need to improve his athletic performance and respond to field injuries, to my 85 year old father’s shifting posture and varying pains. Karen’s healing hands have provided recovery for me from car accidents, surgery, and the constant stresses on my back and hips. We have come to understand her care as a vital part of our family’s well being. Her caring professional manner and her remarkable skill seem almost magical in isolating the source of problems and making immediate progress. We have all been able to do more and do it better with Karen’s service and remain grateful for her warmth and expertise.

I have been seeing Karen for various injuries over the past 7+ years. As an Ironman triathlete, my workout schedule requires me to do a tremendous amount of time swimming, biking and running. As a result, I sustain a lot of injuries, both short term traumas, and long term repetitive injuries. Karen is so adept at figuring out the cause of the problem, and then coming up with the appropriate therapy to help fix it. As an athlete herself, Karen understands the mind of someone who wants to get “back in the game.” She helps you come up with things you can do at home to help prevent injuries from occurring in the first place. I have been to many individuals in the health industry, and I can say with complete confidence that you will not find a more caring, helpful PT anywhere.
